adduser command


adduser command

I need help to resolv this problem.I can not create users on my system.

# adduser

Enter a login name for the new user (for example, john): john
Enter a UID for (john) [366]: 366
Enter a full name for (john): michael john
Enter a login group for (john) [users]: users

Enter another group that (john) should be a member of.
( only if none):
Enter a parent directory for (john) [/usr/users]: /usr/users
The shells are:

/usr/bin/sh /usr/bin/ksh /bin/sh /bin/ksh
/usr/bin/csh /usr/bin/posix/sh /bin/csh

Enter a login shell for (john) [/bin/sh]: /bin/ksh

Adding new user...

The password and group files are currently locked by another user.
Please try again later.
Error, exiting useradd /usr/sbin/adduser. Check /etc/passwd.

Install lsof (

Then run the following command:

lsof | grep passwd

Once you get the process id then it's just a matter of killing that process.
